Well, that didn't take long: Photos have surfaced online of Idris Elba as Roland Deschain in the film version of The Dark Tower.
The movie is being shot in Cape Town, South Africa, and today marks the first time we've seen (unofficial) pics of Elba as the last gunslinger of Mid-World and the hero of Stephen King's eight-book dark fantasy epic.
UK tabloid The Daily Mail has bigger versions of the pics, but it's clear to see that Elba is wearing a Roland-ish outfit (and gun), with the exception of the smartphone he's carrying in one hand (must have been between takes).

We can't really tell anything else from the limited background visible in the pics -- although that looks like a green screen in one of them -- and there are no other actors visible, either.
Director Nikolaj Arcel has been shooting the movie for a while now, having revised the script himself. The cast also includes Matthew McConaughey as Roland's nemesis, the Man in Black (aka Walter), along with newcomer Tom Taylor as Jake Chambers and Jackie Earle Haley, Katheryn Winnick, Fran Kranz and Abbey Lee in roles that are either yet to be revealed or not exactly in line with what's in the first book in the cycle, The Gunslinger.
The Dark Tower will throw open its doors on Feb. 17, 2017. What do you think of this first look at Idris Elba as Roland?
