As we’d heard a while back, former Stargate producers Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie have a 13-episode order for the original sci-fi series Dark Matter in the works at Syfy (Disclosure: Blastr's corporate parent), and they’ve just nailed down the cast list. Not surprisingly, it’s loaded with genre alums.
The series will star Melissa O’Neil (Les Miserables), Marc Bendavid (Bitten), Anthony Lemke (White House Down), Alex Mallari Jr. (RoboCop), Jodelle Ferland (Twilight), Roger Cross (The Strain) and Zoie Palmer (Lost Girl). A lot of mildly familiar names in there, and it should make for a good mix for the ensemble. Production is set to begin in Toronto on Jan. 7, 2015.
The space-set series follows the crew of a spacecraft who awake with no memories of anything that came before. A real space series, yay! In an interesting turn, the show is based on a Dark Horse graphic novel created by Mallozzi and Mullie, which was written essentially to pitch the story as a TV series concept. So, yeah, the circle of geek life.
Here’s the official, albeit brief, synopsis:
In Dark Matter, the crew of a derelict spaceship is awakened from stasis with no memories of who they are or how they got on board. Facing threats at every turn, they have to work together to survive a voyage charged with vengeance, betrayal and hidden secrets.
Dark Matter is slated to debut on Syfy in the summer of 2015.
