"They say the time of heroes is over." Marvel and Square Enix are joining forces for a new Avengers game, and here's the first glorious teaser!

The Avengers Project will be the first game in a "multi-year, multi-game partnership" between Marvel Entertainment and Square Enix, the studio behind the Final Fantasy games and the recent and awesome Tomb Raider reboot. So we know it's going to be good, right?

The announcement reveals that the game will be based on the Avengers characters we all know and love (from the teaser below, we at least know of Bruce Banner/Hulk, Thor, Iron Man and Captain America), but that's about all the details we get for now.

Will it be an RPG? An action game? Something else? One thing we know for sure is that Earth's Mightiest Heroes need to be #reassembled following something big.

Here's what Marvel Entertainment said about the project:

Marvel Entertainment and Square Enix announced today a multi-year, multi-game partnership, leading with the reveal of The Avengers project. This newly established partnership pairs the creative minds at Marvel and Square Enix for one of the most powerful alliances in interactive entertainment.

A game based on beloved Marvel heroes, The Avengers project is being crafted by Crystal Dynamics – longtime developers of the award winning Tomb Raider series – in collaboration with lauded Deus Ex developer Eidos-Montréal.

The Avengers project is being designed for gamers worldwide and will be packed with all the characters, environments, and iconic moments that have thrilled longtime fans of the franchise. Featuring a completely original story, it will introduce a universe gamers can play in for years to come. More details on The Avengers project and other games will be announced in 2018.

Marvel is also working with Telltale Games on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series, slated to be released later this year.
