SLIGHT SPOILERS FOR CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR BELOW
Ever since it was announced Martin Freeman had been cast on Captain America: Civil War, fans have been speculating as to the name of the Marvel character the Sherlock star might be playing.
And now we finally know! Thanks to Empire Online, the name of Freeman’s character has been revealed as Everett Ross.
In the Marvel comics, Everett K. Ross worked for the U.S. State Department, and his job was to escort foreign diplomats on American soil, where he was assigned to T'Challa, aka Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), the ruler of the fictional African nation of Wakanda, when this one came to visit New York City. He also had dealings with Ka-Zar and Mephisto.
But thanks to Everett Ross's close ties to the Prince (and future king) of Wakanda (Ross is the U.S. government official in that country), I think it’s a safe bet to say we'll see Freeman in Marvel's upcoming Black Panther solo movie.
In Captain America: Civil War, however, Ross is part of the Joint Counter Terrorist Centre, an organization attempting to keep a tight leash on Cap (Chris Evans) and Bucky (Sebastian Stan). Not sure that's gonna go well.
As for the pic released by Empire, you can see Ross standing alongside Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp), with a German SWAT team behind them. Civil War co-director Joe Russo promises that a return to Germany will bring Steve Rogers “full circle,” sending him back to where it all began.
What do you think about Martin Freeman playing Everett Ross?
Captain America: Civil War will open in movie theaters on May 6.
