Last year, fans returned to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter with the thrilling adventures of an English wizard in 1920s New York in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
The movie was written by J.K. Rowling and kicked off a new quadrilogy of films taking place decades before the birth of the Boy Who Lived, featuring an unlikely hero in Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). Fantastic Beasts also introduced us to a plethora of great new characters, including Johnny Depp (who only had a cameo in this one) as the Dark Wizard Gellert Grindelwald. Harry Potter fans will already know that Grindelwald has a long history with Albus Dumbledore, who’s been confirmed to appear in the second film.
While this younger version of Dumbeldore has yet to be cast, it shouldn’t take long before we find out who’ll put on the heavy robes of the headmaster of Hogwarts. Why? Because the film is now expected to begin production in August of this year.
The date was revealed by My Entertainment World, which also listed the U.K. and Paris as filming locations on Fantastic Beasts 2, while New York seems to have been dropped. The second film will mostly center on the relationship between Grindelwald and a young Albus Dumbledore, with the fantastic beasts taking a bit of a back seat. But David Yates has confirmed there will be a few amazing beasts in the sequel, including a Chinese beast.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2 is slated to open on Nov. 16, 2018.
