One of the first things we ever saw from the upcoming animated series Star Wars: Rebels was the surprisingly scary-looking baddie the Inquisitor, and now we know who’ll be giving him his voice. Spoiler alert: He’s suitably creepy and intimidating.
Producers of the Disney XD series have tapped veteran actor Jason Isaacs (Awake, Harry Potter) to voice the Jedi-hunting villain, who’ll be menacing the Rebels era between the Star Wars prequels and original trilogy.
Entertainment Weekly confirmed the casting and chatted with Lucasfilm Story Group’s Pablo Hidalgo about the character. Hidalgo touches on how they wanted to differentiate the Inquisitor from the Star Wars villains who have come before, and we’re actually pretty psyched to see this guy in action:
“He’s cold, he’s analytical, he doesn’t get angry. We all took care to make sure our villains have real presence and our heroes just can’t walk all over him. This isn’t like cartoons I grew up with in the 80s where you’d have the villain lose every week and yet every week we’d have to believe he’s some sort of threat. When The Inquisitor shows up, it means something significant and it’s a definite challenge for our heroes.”

Star Wars: Rebels is set to premiere this fall as a one-hour special on Disney Channel, before it migrates over to Disney XD for its regular series run.
