But we've got some potentially interesting news. It looks like martial artist and stuntman Alain Moussi — who did recent stunt work on X-Men: Days of Future Past and Pacific Rim, and who just nabbed his first lead role as Kurt Sloane in that upcoming Kickboxer reboot titled Kickboxer: Vengeance (it’ll also feature the original Sloane, Jean-Claude Van Damme, as his mentor, Master Durand) — may be in the running to play Iron Fist.
It goes without saying that would totally make sense for Marvel to cast someone who knows kung fu and what to do with his fists (and feet). The character of Daniel “Danny” Rand, who got his own Marvel solo series back in the 1970s, is a martial arts practitioner who uses a mystical force known as the Iron Fist. This allows him to summon and focus his chi. Rand shared the title Power Man and Iron Fist for years with fellow Defenders team member Luke Cage (played by Mike Colter in Netflix’s upcoming series). He later partnered with him order to form the superhero team Heroes for Hire. That’s the potential storyline things seem to point to — leading, of course, to Netflix’s event mini-series The Defenders.
Moussi posted this on his Facebook page:
Now, none of this has been confirmed, and the post was subsequently deleted and updated with one saying he was "NOT in the running," so take it with a grain of salt. Which begs the question: Is Moussi playing the Tyrese Gibson and Vin Diesel game here? Trying to promote himself in order to nab the role of Iron Fist? Eh, it’s possible. Either that, or he acted wayyy too soon and revealed something he shouldn’t have. Oops. There's also the possibility that he's doing stunt work on the series, but since he's getting his big break as a leading action star in Kickboxer, that could be a bit of a step back. Or ... it means nothing at all.
Anywho, we actually think Alain Moussi would be absolutely perfect for the role. What do you think? Do you want Moussi to play Danny Rand on Netflix’s Iron Fist? If not, who else would you like to see in the iconic comic-book role?
