Here's another comic-book property for your TV schedule. If you're a fan of Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming's Powers, check out the PlayStation Network's adaptation. The series is headlined by Sharlto Copley and Susan Heyward, who play Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim.
USA Today published the first photo of the duo together. Bendis, who serves as executive producer, spoke about what viewers can expect from the show. If you want a play-by-play of the comic, don't hold your breath. He explained that this version of Powers is a "different experience."
When Copley auditioned for Walker, he was nothing like the character on the page. Fellow producer Charlie Huston says his first impression was, "I don't know what kind of Walker that is, but I totally want to see it." As for Deena, he had an easier time casting Heyward.
"She is this amazing fireball," Huston says. "You do 12-hour days and it's getting into 10 p.m. and you're in a parking garage and all you can smell is gas fumes and you're eating stale pizza, and Susan is down at the end of the ramp doing jujitsu kicks, spinning around and ready to go."
This isn't the first attempt to bring Powers to the small screen. Back in 2009, FX greenlit a pilot that featured Jason Patric and Lucy Punch as the leads. Powers is currently shooting in Atlanta for a 10-episode season. The first two episodes are directed by David Slade. The series is expected to debut sometime in December.
What do you think of Copley and Heyward as Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim?
