The Sanderson Sisters are back, and no, we aren't talking about the upcoming Disney Channel TV movie version. This time they're getting a sequel in the form of a book. And we all know how much they like books.
A new two-part book retelling the original story of Hocus Pocus along with a sequel follow-up is headed to bookshelves this summer, just in time for the 25th anniversary of the original film. In case you grew up in a parallel universe and missed the cult phenomenon of Hocus Pocus, the 1993 film told the story of a group of kids who accidentally resurrected three 300-year-old witches (played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy) on Halloween night. A talking cat, a spooky Salem Halloween, and distracted parents? Stir it up in a cauldron and you've got the perfect combination for a delightful children's movie.
Hocus Pocus and the All-New Sequel picks up 25 years later with the original characters of Hocus Pocus. Spent decades wondering if Max and Allison are still together? Well, meet their 17-year-old daughter. And Dani is back, too. The sequel also takes place on Halloween night, but this time the trio gets to see how it feels to be the adults of the story. Hopefully, the older, wiser Dennisons won't make the same mistakes their parents did.
Disney recently announced a new Hocus Pocus TV movie coming with a new director, writer, and likely an all-new cast. Midler has expressed displeasure with the upcoming TV movie, saying it will look "cheap" and that she won't make an appearance. Amok! Amok! Amok!
Halloween comes early when Hocus Pocus and the All-New Sequel flies into bookstores on July 10, 2018.
