Is Hugh Jackman hedging on retiring as Wolverine?

It seems like Hugh Jackman is finding it harder than he thought to quit playing Logan.

Although the upcoming third Wolverine movie, also called Logan, has been billed for a while now as Jackman's farewell in the role -- with Jackman himself doing the most to promote that idea -- it now appears that the actor may not want to hang up his claws just yet.

Why the change of heart? One word: Deadpool.

That's right. Although a rumored Deadpool cameo in Logan was quickly debunked by Jackman, director James Mangold and the Merc With a Mouth himself, Ryan Reynolds, that didn't stop the latter from thinking out loud how cool it would be to actually see Wolverine and Deadpool team up for not just a cameo but a whole movie.

Of course, there's that one problem of Jackman leaving the role after nine films and 17 years, which Reynolds acknowledged in an interview with Variety:

"I have no idea if I can change his mind. It’s the audience: I would exclusively exploit that relationship to get Hugh back for another one."

That in turn led Variety to ask Jackman if he could see such a pair-up happening, and apparently he can:

"I’m hesitating because I could totally see how that’s the perfect fit. But the timing may be wrong."

There's probably no such thing as "wrong timing" for fans who would love to watch Wade and Logan sniping and snarking at each other for two hours, but the question is whether Jackman would really consider going back on pretty much everything he's said for the last two years and taking the claws out of cold storage again. If Logan is a monster hit (and Reynolds, who has seen some of it, says it's "mind-blowing" and apparently thinks it's even an Oscar contender), if the script is right, if the check is big enough ... well, no one ever said retirement had to be forever, right?

Logan comes out in theaters on March 3. Do you want this to be Jackman's send-off, or would you forget about all the retirement talk just to see him and Deadpool mix it up?
