After more than a decade in the role, Hugh Jackman is the first to admit his days as the ageless mutant Wolverine are coming to an end soon — but he still has a project he’d like to cross off his bucket list.
During an interview with IGN promoting X-Men: Days of Future Past, Jackman teased that he’d “love” to bring his adamantium-armed character over to Marvel Studio’s flagship property The Avengers, fulfilling every geek’s dream and doing something that makes a ton of sense for comic fans.
Heck, he even knows who he’d like to slug it out with on the gang:
“I would love to see him as part of The Avengers. Because there's a great dysfunction among that team, and I think Wolverine would fit right into that. He'd like that… There's no doubt he'd get in a fight with Hulk at some point. Those two bad, rage-filled characters are going to square off at some point. It would be quite fun. I don't know how much fun to shoot it would be because I'm sure I'd be on the worst end of it, but hey, he can heal.”
There’s obviously a precedent for this in the comic canon, as Wolverine has actually been a member of the Avengers in different arcs, but the characters are at separate film studios now — making it virtually impossible to do a crossover of this scope.
So, much like Jackman, we’ll just keep dreaming about how freaking cool this could be. Sigh.
