During today’s Upfront presentation, Hulu announced it had picked up Marvel’s Runaways and Mars drama The First to series, while a first leaked look at Runaways has made its way online.

First things first. Marvel’s Runaways is based on the award-winning Marvel comics created by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona. The superhero series is the brainchild of Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, and is co-produced by Marvel Television and ABC Signature.

Executive produced by Marvel head of TV Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory (Marvel’s Daredevil), alongside Schwartz and Savage, Runaways tells “the story of six diverse teenagers who can barely stand each other but who must unite against a common foe – their parents.” It was originally ordered to pilot with some backup scripts. Back in February, Marvel announced the cast and characters for the series, and you can read all about it here. Here's our first look:

The First (which is apparently a working title) is a straight-to-series order. The show was created and written by Beau Willimon (House of Cards), who will executive produce alongside his producing partner Jordan Tappis.

The show takes place in the near future and focuses on the many challenges that come with taking the first steps toward the first manned mission to Mars. Here’s what Willimon had to say:

“It’s a story about the human spirit. About our indomitable need to reach for unknown horizons. About people working toward the greatest pioneering achievement in human history. And about the cost of that vision, the danger and sacrifice – emotional, psychological, and physical – that’s required to achieve it. How ordinary, imperfect people band together and overcome a myriad of obstacles to grasp the extraordinary.”

Both series are slated to enter production later this year for a 2018 premiere on Hulu. Are you looking forward to Marvel's Runaways and The First?
