Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is a television show set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Defenders (comprising characters from Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist) is an upcoming television show set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But the two have yet to cross over. Until now. Well, kinda.
In this image, below, from photographer Kremer Johnson with Emmy Magazine, actors from both shows— Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Finn Jones (Iron Fist), Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Clark Gregg (Phil Coulson), Jeph Loeb (Head of Marvel Television), Chloe Bennet (Daisy Johnson) and Mike Colter (Luke Cage)—pay homage to a famed 1932 image, “Lunch Atop a Skyscraper.” Amusingly enough, Loeb brought his lunchbox.
We doubt the stars were sitting on a beam 69 stories above street level, as the construction workers originally were.
Although references to the greater MCU, as well as to each other, have been made in both S.H.I.E.L.D. and individual Defenders episodes, there are no official plans for the shows to cross over.
This means this image is either a tease—as in “a hint of things to come”—or just plain teasing us. Your guess is as good as mine.
