Image of the Day: First look at NSFW-named Preacher character

Preacher, the television show based on a Vertigo comic, is coming to AMC sometime in 2016. It’s about a preacher Jesse Custer, who is fused with a powerful half-angel/half-demon infant named Genesis who goes looking for God. The comic book’s unusual cast of characters includes Cassidy, an Irish vampire, and a character with a NSFW name. And in this first set photo, we get to see him.

The character I’m speaking of is Arseface (Ian Coletti), who got his name and his unusual looks after a botched suicide attempt with a rifle. As a result, he has a caved-in look and is completely unintelligible.

Are Arseface and Cassidy friends or foes to Jesse? It depends on the turn of the page. And is Jesse himself a hero or a villain? It also depends. After all, he’s confronting God. But God had abandoned heaven in fear of Genesis.

In other words, if you’re looking for good and evil, you’re not going to find it in Preacher. But you'll find more shades of gray than an E.L. James novel.

I’m looking forward to the upcoming show, even though it makes me sad, knowing that the canceled show Constantine would have been better served on AMC.
