Dawn of the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves has announced (via Twitter) filming on the hotly anticipated sequel had begun by releasing over the weekend a first official behind-the-scenes pic from War for the Planet of the Apes.
The pic features two actors in mo-cap suits, playing apes. One is sitting a horse while the other approaches. The scene was being filmed on a Vancouver beach, and if you guys think it looks eerily familiar, I’m with you there, because the scene sorta echoes the shocking (and I’m putting this mildly) final scene from 1968’s Planet of the Apes, where astronaut George Taylor (Charlton Eston) discovers that the planet of the apes he landed on is actually Earth! Check it out:
Reeves — who co-wrote the script with screenwriter Mark Bomback — also confirmed that Dawn of the Planet of the Apes composer Michael Giacchino is returning to compose the score for the third entry in the planned trilogy that chronicles the tale of Caesar (Andy Serkis).
War for the Planet of the Apes is slated to premiere on July 14, 2017.
