Image of the Day: See the enormity of the Solar System in this amazing rendering made to scale

Planet Earth obviously seems like a pretty big place to us, but how does it shape up when placed side by side with the rest of our Solar System, size-wise?

That’s the question artist Roberto Ziche set out to answer with the stunning rendering you see above, which includes every planet (and the sun) in a model made to scale. They’re all sitting side by side, and it’s a nice reminder that the sun is absolutely enormous — to the point that it even makes the biggest planets look tiny in comparison.

In case you need a bit of help, the rendering shows the sun in the background. The foreground includes: Mercury, Venus, Earth and the moon, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and dwarf planets Pluto, Haumea, Makemake and Eris.

So check out the rendering above and enjoy a nice reminder about the scope of our Solar System. We're just a little marble in a big ol' bunch of space.
