Hugh Jackman will be donning the claws and mutton chops one last time next year, and now we know the title of his final Wolverine film.
The studio has released a teaser poster for the film, simply titled Logan, along with the confirmed release date of March 3, 2017. The poster features Wolverine’s hand, claws out, holding the hand of a young child. There are also a few things that stand out: Wolverine’s hand is cut and scarred, which is strange, since he typically has a healing factor to take care of that. As for the child, we can only assume that’s X-23 (the young, female Wolverine clone rumored to appear in the film).
Little is known about the film itself, though director James Mangold also shared a page from the R-rated script (watch out for the F-bombs) that provides some direction for the version of Wolverine we’ll meet in Logan. The script notes Logan is “older now and it’s clear his abilities aren’t what they once were. He’s fading on the inside and his diminished healing factor keeps him in a constant state of chronic pain — hence booze as a painkiller.”
This certainly sounds like the darkest turn yet for the mainstream X-Men franchise (Deadpool not withstanding obviously), and it’ll be interesting to see what Mangold does with the material.
