Now that you've had the weekend to digest the new Star Wars Blu-rays—and all the various ways that the writer-director-producer-caretaker has massaged his creations this time around—it's worth looking at a history of those changes.
Some of the early changes ranged from the mundane (wheee! stereo!) to the economically mandated (shortening the runtime to save on home video production costs)—but the fact is, George Lucas has always been willing to re-edit the Star Wars saga for reasons involving love, money or both.
