International trailers always get the good stuff. The Japanese promo for Disney's John Carter has new footage and exposes the character's rocky roots. He's got some built-up anger and is ready to take it out on the Martians!
John Carter is based on the character and story by Edgar Rice Burroughs. The film stars Taylor Kitsch as Carter and follows the Civil War hero as he gets transported to Mars. He doesn't know how or why he's there, but he finds himself in the middle of a heated battle between the planet's natives.
Instead of quietly finding a way home, Carter takes an interest in the Martian Princess Dejah Thoris and Thark leader Tars Tarkas. He gets wrapped up in their fight, which mimics his war back home. In the new trailer, we learn why Carter is so invested in their drama: He recently lost his wife and child, because he was unable to keep them safe. In his words, "I was too late once. I won't be again."
Will Carter be able to save Mars from the brink of war and finally find his way home?
John Carter opens nationwide March 9.
