Invasion of the Body Snatchers reboot: Warner Bros hoping fifth time's the charm

If you were just thinking about how the world needs more Invasion of the Body Snatchers reboots, then you’re in luck, 'cause Warner Bros. has just announced reboot #4.

Warners officially launched a remake, and tapped veteran horror scribe David Leslie Johnson (Orphan, The Conjuring 2, The Walking Dead) to write the screenplay and sci-fi/action mainstay John Davis (I, Robot, Predator, Chronicle) to produce. So even if it’s not exactly ripe for a redo, at least the franchise is in good hands.

Based upon Jack Finney’s 1954 novel, Don Siegel’s original 1956 film (which was ultimately included in the National Film Registry) found members of a small California town overrun by alien plant-pods that housed emotionless, human replicants. Donald Sutherland, Brooke Adams, and Jeff Goldblum starred in director Philip Kaufman’s San Francisco-set 1978 reboot. Then it was offered up again as Body Snatchers in 1993, starring Gabrielle Anwar, Meg Tilly, and Forest Whitaker. And it’s only been 10 years since Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman starred in Oliver Hirschbiegel’s 2007 effort, The Invasion.

But hey, with a solid creative team shaping up, and the power of Warner Bros. behind the film yet again, who’s to say there’s not plenty more of the alien-pod premise to nurture? What do you say, are you in?
