It's been rumored for weeks, and now it's official—the latest film in the Hunger Games saga has cast the role of Plutarch Heavensbee, and Catching Fire has definitely caught a seasoned actor.
Philip Seymour Hoffman (Mission Impossible III) has signed on as Head Gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee, as confirmed by Lionsgate's Twitter feed.
Hoffman will be playing the film's head gamemaker, playing a similar role to Wes Bentley's turn in Hunger Games.
Considering the success of the first film, Lionsgate has put this one on the fast track. So Hoffman and the returning cast are set to start shooting this fall.
If you're not up on your Hunger Games continuity, here's the sequel's official synopsis:
THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a "Victor's Tour" of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) - a competition that could change Panem forever. What do you think about the casting decision? Is Hoffman the right man for the job?
