Director Justin Lin's Star Trek Beyond introduced the exotic alien character of Jaylah (Sofia Boutella) as an integral part of the story, but we were left somewhat empty over the precise details of her past. Picking up after the events depicted in the movie, the new issue of IDW's Star Trek: Boldly Go is addressing those loose ends with an intriguing backstory spotlighting the warrior woman and her escape attempt with her father from the planet Altamid and Krall's minions.

Written by Tony Shasteen (Star Trek, The Vampire Diaries) with shadowy, streamlined art from George Caltsoudas (Vampire Knight, Steven Universe), this new Trekkie title from IDW is attracting legions of new fans to its interesting extrapolations and expansions of the Star Trek universe.
