Well, ladies and gentlemen, Clint Barton has officially left the building. Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, Jeremy Renner announced that he'd completed filming on all of his scenes as Hawkeye for the next two Avengers movies, Infinity War and its currently untitled sequel.
"This is not a goodbye, only a see-you-later," he said in a video shot outside his trailer. "That's a wrap for me on Infinity Wars. I couldn't be more excited to see how they put this together. I'm very excited. I'm also excited to go home and see my baby," Renner finished with a smile.
His use of the phrase "Infinity Wars" is interesting because it could confuse anyone who has kept up with the evolution of Marvel Studios' projects over the last few years. Infinity War (out May 4) was originally supposed to be split into two parts, but the decision was eventually made to do it as a one-parter. The follow-up is slated for release on May 3, 2019, and doesn't have a title yet. However, it seems that Renner is sticking to the original vernacular, as both films — directed by the Russo Brothers — are being shot back-to-back. Indeed, production on Avengers 4 is supposed to go until the summer and will include all the major players in Infinity War.
Renner joy at returning to his family echoes his own character's arc: We learned that Hawkeye has a wife and kids, hidden away on a farm, in Age of Ultron — a surprising revelation that turned him into one of the MCU's more compelling characters. His fate will be up in the air after the fourth Avengers movie, but thankfully, we don't have to worry about it for a while. In the meantime, he can hang up his bow and quiver and enjoy a nice long rest.
