Jerome is not The Joker on Gotham... but we may see the villain soon

Jerome Valeska was introduced early on in Gotham's run and was largely presumed to be this universe's version of the Joker, mostly because he had that menacing Joker-ish smile and demented laugh. Producers have been cagey about whether Jerome actually is the Joker. Because of issues with rights for characters from the Batman universe, it was starting to look like the official Joker would not appear on the Fox show — or at least not carry his name.

Well, now we have confirmation that Jerome, memorably portrayed by Cameron Monaghan, is not the Joker, courtesy of star David Mazouz.

"He is not the Joker, that's all I'm saying," Mazouz said during a recent sit-down on the podcast Discussing Film. "He is definitely the inspiration for the Joker, and the way that the Joker comes into the show is, in my opinion, one of the most brilliant things Gotham has ever done." Mazouz does not go into further detail about what we can look forward when it comes to the "real" The Joker. However, because Mazouz seems to know how the Joker is introduced, it sounds like we may get to see him before Season 4 ends.

Monaghan later took to Twitter to seemingly back up Mazouz's statement, in a tweet that has since been deleted.

Okay Bat-fans. Now it is your turn. How do you think the producers of Gotham will introduce the Joker? Sound off in the comments below.
