The Twelfth Doctor is here, and he might not be set to visit the friendliest of places.
After several teasers that made us itch for a good long look at the new incarnation of everyone's favorite time traveler, the BBC finally released a full trailer for the eighth series of Doctor Who Sunday, and though the footage is brief, it did provide us with our best look at Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi since the character made his proper debut in the 2013 Christmas special, Time of the Doctor.
The trailer, which also stars Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald, features Daleks, dinosaurs and other adversaries of the Doctor both new and old, and in its most striking scene features Capaldi's Doctor asking Clara if he's a good man. Clara's "I don't know" reply both highlights the darkness and depth of everything the Doctor has been through in recent years (he now lists himself as 2,000 years old, which marks significant aging from the Smith character) and sets up the arc of this new Doctor's journey as a man trying to atone, at least for his first season. Though the trailer still doesn't give away much in the way of real plot clues, one thing's for sure: Showrunner Steven Moffat and company are aiming for intensity.
Doctor Who returns Aug. 23 with a new Doctor and its first non-special episode in more than a year. Will you be watching?
