Justice League reportedly scored close to Wonder Woman among test audiences

Justice League will be hitting theaters on Nov. 13. And if we’re reading the tea leaves right, the DC Universe tentpole film may be in for some good fortune. That’s because test audiences have reportedly scored it almost as high as Wonder Woman, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The paper reminds us that it was not a straight line from film shoot to excellent test scores. Initially, the screenplay was considered too dark for Warner Bros.' tastes, so co-director Zack Snyder and screenwriter Chris Terrio went back to the writing board. The first cut of the film likewise didn’t hit as many light notes as Warner Bros wanted.

After Snyder stepped down after the death of his daughter, Joss Whedon came in to reshoot some key scenes. And still, The Wall Street Journal said, it took another edit of the film to integrate Whedon’s style with Snyder’s. We’re hoping for the best of both worlds: Synder’s sense of timing punctuated by Whedon’s whip-smart dialog.

Of course, it’s anyone's guess whether or not Justice League will be as financially successful as Wonder Woman: Justice League cost $300 million — one of most expensive film ever produced. (Adjusted for inflation, it's only been superceded by Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, which cost an adjusted $347 and $403 million, respectively.) 

Wonder Woman cost half that, $149 million. It earned $821.8 million.

Justice League will be the springboard for stand-alone films Aquaman (2018), Flashpoint (2019), and Cyborg (2020). Viewers can also anticipate Wonder Woman 2, Man of Steel 2, and The Batman.
