It looks like Ben Affleck’s casting as the next Batman is starting to bring folks out of the woodwork. So who wants to be his next great nemesis? Justin Timberlake.
The pop singer-turned-actor recently starred with Affleck in the film Runner, Runner, and was asked his thoughts about Batman in a recent radio interview. Timberlake said he believes Affleck will do a great job, adding there’s “not a chance in hell” he’d want to play Robin (thank God).
But what about going up against Batman? That’s where his interest was piqued. Apparently Timberlake is a big Batman fan — specifically of the Riddler, who was last played by Jim Carrey in 1995 with disastrously silly results.
Here’s Timberlake’s take on the character:
“I have no aspiration to ever be a superhero in a movie ... Now, a villain! I'll tell you the villain I want to play more than anything because I grew up loving Batman, funnily enough, is The Riddler. The Riddler is my favorite villain. The Riddler was like a sociopath. He was proper crazy. So if I'm gonna play crazy, I'm wanna play proper crazy."
Obviously, the knee-jerk reaction to this is that it’s a terrible idea (mostly because it is), but remember how people scoffed at Heath Ledger as the Joker before he gave us all nightmares? Now, does Timberlake have that kind of acting ability inside of him? Who knows (probably not). But he is a big name — and this isn’t as far outside the realm of possibility as we might think.
What do you think? Who should be Batman’s new big-screen baddie? Could Timberlake make a compellingly creepy Riddler?
