Despite all the behind-the-scenes insanity surrounding Gareth Edwards' Godzilla reboot, the filmmaker is still plugging away trying to cast the lead role. The latest candidate? None other than everyone's favorite non-super-powered comic book hero.
Aaron Johnson, best known as the title star of the cult fave Kick-Ass, is rumored to be up for the starring role in Godzilla. His involvement is reportedly contingent on the final version of the script. The specifics have not been revealed, but rumor has it the character will be a soldier dealing with the giant monster attack. Johnson's name joins a list that already includes Henry Cavill, Scoot McNairy and Caleb Landry Jones.
Despite some good names on the casting rounds, the film itself has run into some major problems the past week. First, the studio tried to fire producers Dan Lin and Roy Lee. Then they decided to bring on Walking Dead co-creator Frank Darabont to take a crack at the script (this one is actually a good thing).
But Lin and Lee didn't take too kindly to getting canned, so they've filed a lawsuit to stall production until everything gets sorted out in court. The legal drama is still unfolding, but it's good to see Edwards (Monsters) won't let all the shenanigans slow things down on the filmmaking side.
What do you think of the casting news? Would you like to see Johnson sign on?
