Kingsman: The Secret Service’s Taron Egerton was one of the actors in the running to play the part of a younger Scott Summers, aka Cyclops, in Bryan Singer’s upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse. This shortlist included Jamie Blackley (Snow White and the Huntsman) and Tye Sheridan (Scouts vs. Zombies), among other actors also touted for the role of the mutant leader back in November.
Now, Egerton had remained quite mum on the subject not too long ago, but during this new interview with MTV, the British actor broke the silence and revealed exactly what’s what about the story:
“I can say I'm not doing X-Men. I love the X-Men films and I love that franchise. I love the people who make them on and off screen, so yeah I'd love to one day sometime, but in this instance that rumour is unfounded.”
Now, that’s very interesting. His comment here seems to indicate that he never was in the running to play Cyclops in the first place. Was it truly all a rumor? And what about Blackley and Sheridan? Guess we’ll have to wait and see. So, even though we won’t see Egerton sport that awesome visor for X-Men: Apocalypse, it doesn’t mean that Egerton doesn’t have his sights set on playing superhero. When asked which one he’d like to play, the 25-year-old actor did not hesitate:
“If I could play any superhero...my favourite superhero is Spider-Man. Andrew Garfield is wonderful at doing it to the point that I don't think I should play it.”
So humble, is he not? If the recent Sony leaks have revealed anything, it’s that Sony wants Garfield out as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and that they’re thinking about rebooting the character yet again. Perhaps Egerton could have a real shot at playing everyone’s favorite webslinger? We know he's going to kick ass in Matthew Vaughn's Kingsman, he fits the look, and we’d totally see him in the role.
Have a look at the interview:
What do you guys think? Are you disappointed that Taron Egerton won’t play Cyclops in X-Men: Apocalypse? And do you see him as a potential Spidey?
