You may think you know everything there is to know about the Man of Steel's origins, but you don't know the entire story. SYFY's new series Krypton will explore the extended history of the House of El — and we can now confirm the show's premiere date.

Krypton debuts March 21, 2018 and will take place "two generations before the destruction of Superman's home planet," the network reveals in an official synopsis. It will follow Kal-El's grandfather, Seg-El, as he attempts to bring order to his house, as well as his planet.

Why is all of this Seg-El's burden to bear? It turns out he will receive a visit from none other than Earth-based time traveler Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos), who will warn him that "he's under the clock to save his beloved world from chaos." Apparently that will entail restoring his family's honor, along with whipping the perpetually messed-up Kryptonian leadership into some kind of shape.

Seg-El is going to be faced with all kinds of difficult choices, because most important of all, he's going to have to choose whether to save Krypton, or let it be destroyed in order to allow his famous grandson to achieve his destiny. The time-travel-based meddling of Adam Strange is sure to play a pivotal role here.

Here's our exclusive first look at the House of El, which includes Game of Thrones actor Ian McElhinney (Ser Barristan Selmy) wearing some very familiar colors:

Aside from Cuffe, Sipos, and the aforementioned McElhinney, Krypton will also star Georgina Campbell (Broadchurch), Elliot Cowan (Da Vinci’s Demons), Ann Ogbomo (World War Z), Rasmus Hardiker (Your Highness), Wallis Day (Will), and Aaron Pierre (The A Word). It will be executive-produced by David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) under the banner of his Phantom Four, and Cameron Welsh will act as showrunner.

Will this new show tie into the DCEU? Will Adam Strange prevent Superman from going to Earth in the first place? Will we see a young Jor-El at some point? All will be revealed in time, but for now, are you excited to take this new journey to Krypton? Let us know in the comments!
