Though Howard the Duck has a long career in the Marvel Universe, his biggest claim to fame is a little movie that hit back in 1986. Well, the acclaimed new comic run is looking to pay some credit to Howard’s big-screen debut.
A comic version of Lea Thompson, who co-starred in the film with Howard, is set to show up for a two-issue arc in the ongoing comic series. The story will kick off in Issue #8 (out today) and apparently finds Thompson coming to Howard with a case (he’s currently working as a private eye). The mystery? She’s been losing time over the years, and it seems the answer could connect back to the time they shared on the film. Intriguing!
Zdarsky told The Hollywood Reporter they’ve been planning this arc for over a year, and teased that a lot of the current storyline has actually been building toward Thompson’s appearance. So don’t worry: “It makes sense in-story and isn’t just a stunt.” Despite the famous bomb, Howard has been enjoying a resurgence as of late, led by a cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy and Zdarsky’s stellar handling of the character in the pages of Marvel Comics.
