The first installment in Marvel’s new, canonical Star Wars comic launches in January — and we have a first look right here. Spoiler alert: There are a lot of familiar faces.
Three sample pages from Marvel’s Star Wars #1 have been revealed, ahead of the book’s Jan. 14, 2015, release date. The comic will be the flagship series in the new-look Star Wars comic lineup, in the wake of Marvel’s reacquisition of the rights. Along with ongoing animated series Star Wars: Rebels, the comic is also set in the continuity of the new trilogy.
This comic run, helmed by writer Jason Aaron and artist John Cassaday, will be set “directly after” the events of Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope, and promises to dig into exactly what happened in the wake of the Death Star’s destruction. If the preview pages are any indication, it looks like the story will be filling in the decades between the original trilogy and the new sequels.
The pages feature original characters Han Solo, Luke and Leia (plus R2-D2!) taking on some stormtroopers, so we'd reason they’ll likely be dealing with the remnants of the Empire. Judging by the fact that stormtroopers are apparently still around in The Force Awakens, though, we’d think they don’t entirely succeed.
Regardless, check out the sample pages below and get ready for some all-new (canonical) adventures.
