However the gargantuan fantasy hit Game of Thrones chooses to close out the story of the young and deadly Arya Stark, it will undoubtedly be something fantastic -- and today we know exactly when we might expect to see that ending. We already knew that the HBO incest-fest would return in 2019, but thanks to Maisie Williams (the actress behind Arya), we now know that the show will return in April of that year.
During an interview with Metro News about her role in the new Aardman-animated film Early Man, the conversation inevitably turned towards Thrones. The actress (who often has fans asking her to add them to Arya's famous "list of people to kill" bedtime mantra) revealed that she is already shooting the final season, and added the following: "We wrap in December and we air our first episode in April."
If that sounds like a fast turnaround, Williams would agree: "That's a four-month turnaround for these huge episodes. There's a lot that goes into the final edit. You would not want to rush this season at all."
For a show that routinely features epic battles, dragons, and epic battles with dragons, that turnaround doesn't seem like much time. Perhaps the effects work will begin much earlier, or maybe there aren't any big battles in the final season at all? Yeah right.
The full weight of expectation that this final season brings is not lost on Williams either: "We owe it to our audience and our fans to really do this final season to the best of our abilities."
By all indications, the final season of the show that proved that Jon Snow is not smarter than a 5th grader will be the most epic yet. The Battle of Blackwater Bay, the Battle of Hardhome, the Battle of the Bastards, and even last season's loot train sequence may look small in comparison. A man has a dream.
While little else about next season is known at the moment, this does confirm that Williams will in fact appear in the final episodes (as suspected). Will we be seeing a long awaited reunion between her and Jon "former bastard/aunt lover" Snow-Targaryen? Once again, a man has a dream... and this possible "dream of spring" will be ready by April of 2019.
