Ever since that memorable Gears of War "Mad World" commercial crawled into my brain back in 2006, the Gears of War game franchise has been one of my go-to titles when it comes to some serious leisure-time distractions. The new GoW installment from Microsoft Studios is primed for launch on Oct. 11 for Xbox One and Windows 10, and this insane trailer, set to a cover of Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters," hits that same sweet spot for me.
Set 25 years after the events of Gears of War 3, the game has Old Man Marcus and his son JD square off with friends against The Locust and The Swarm as the vicious aliens invade Sera for their own diabolical purposes. With marching mechs, skinless monsters, wicked weapons and roaring combat motorcycles, what's not to like?
Here's the official synopsis:
A new saga begins for one of the most acclaimed video game franchises in history. After narrowly escaping an attack on their village, JD Fenix and his friends, Kait and Del, must rescue the ones they love and discover the source of a monstrous new enemy.
Early birds who pre-purchase the Ultimate Edition get to play starting Oct. 7 and also score a multiplayer skin for "Old Man Marcus," "Zombie Dom" and "Tomorrow Anya". Gears of War 4 will also be available as part of Microsoft's new Xbox Play Anywhere service that allows you to play on either platform. Fight on!
