Marvel Comics will finally reveal what made Thor unworthy

In 2012, Jason Aaron took over the story of Marvel's most prominent Asgardian in the pages of Thor: God of Thunder. In the years since, Aaron's become one of Marvel's superstars thanks to extended runs on Star Wars and Doctor Strange and the Original Sin event, but he's stayed with Thor all the while.

During his run with the character he's explored the Thunder God's past, present and future, battled foes old and new, taken the Odinson's left arm and, most famously, stripped Thor of his mighty hammer, giving it to a new, female Thor.

It's been nearly three years since Mjolnir passed into the hands of Jane Foster, and Thor continues to fight his battles in the Marvel Universe with the axe Jarnbjorn while still unaware of who's under the Thor helmet now. While readers know that secret already, what we don't know are the words Nick Fury whispered to Thor at the end of Original Sin, which turned him into the unworthy Odinson. Now, the wait to find out is almost over.

Next month, in the final issue of Unworthy Thor by Aaron and artist Olivier Coipel, we will learn what Fury told Thor.

"I always said we'd eventually find out just exactly what Nick Fury whispered to Thor Odinson that made him unworthy," Aaron said. "The words have been scribbled in my trusty Thor notebook for years now. Words that speak to the overall story I've been telling with this character going back to Thor: God of Thunder #1. The next phase of that story begins now."

Of course, we have no idea what the "next phase" of Aaron's Thor story is yet, but if you've been following it since the beginning, or even since Jane Foster picked up the hammer, this is a thrilling moment indeed. Will Odinson and Mjolnir be reunited? Will he pick up the Ultimate universe Mjolnir while Jane keeps the original? As with all of Aaron's Thor stories, the possibilities seem endless.

Unworthy Thor #5 arrives March 22. Check out some preview pages over at ComicBook.com.
