The first member of Attilan's royal family has been found for the upcoming ABC series based on Marvel's Inhumans comics.

That member is Maximus, and he'll be played by Iwan Rheon, last seen as the thoroughly evil Ramsay Bolton on Game of Thrones. Described as "clever and charming," Maximus is said to be "fiercely devoted" to his people, his family and his brother, Black Bolt, who is the king of the hidden Inhumans city of Attilan. But Maximus also harbors a secret desire to wear the crown himself -- in other words, he and Loki should probably get together sometime for a strategy session.

Maximus has attempted many times in the comics to usurp the throne by means such as creating destructive energy beings called the Trikon to drive the royal family out of Attilan and even manipulating the Hulk to help him with one nefarious scheme. Mentally unstable himself, his powers include the ability to induce amnesia in people, control their minds and swap his consciousness with that of another person.

Marvel Television head honcho Jeph Loeb said about Rheon in a press statement, "Iwan's ability to be charming, roguish and still completely unexpectedly dangerous were all the different sides we needed to bring the character to life."

There's no doubt that the actor has the experience to bring this treacherous Inhuman to the screen; now we just have to see who fills out the rest of the Attilan royal family in the roles of Black Bolt, Medusa, Karnak, Gorgon, Triton and Crystal (it's probably safe to say that the Inhuman dog Lockjaw will be a wholly CG creation).

The first two episodes of Inhumans will debut on IMAX theater screens over Labor Day weekend before the show moves to ABC for the next six episodes of its limited run. What do you think of Iwan Rheon being cast as Maximus the Mad?
