Did you know that Marvel will release an official comics prequel for their upcoming Doctor Strange movie? Yep. The first issue of the official mini-series titled Doctor Strange: Prelude, set to hit comic book stores tomorrow, will feature Benedict Wong’s version of Wong, Stephen Strange’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) faithful servant and teacher who was the subject of a major overhaul for the Marvel Studios film. It looks like the second issue will center around the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton).
The cool preview (four pages plus cover art) in the gallery below features a mysterious woman -- clearly the acolyte of Mads Mikkelsen’s villain of the Marvel film, who's rumored to be Kaecilius. The female character is probably Zealot, played by British martial artist Zara Phythian. We also have a look at Wong, who arrives a bit late on the scene, and there’s also a nifty direct reference to the events of Thor: The Dark World with the mention of the Dark Elves.
Here’s a synopsis:
MARVEL’S OFFICIAL PREQUEL! A powerful, ancient relic has been stolen from the British Museum – a relic that could do significant damage in the wrong hands… Enter the MASTERS OF THE MYSTIC ARTS! The team is on a mission to find the relic and the mysterious mystic who stole it – but will they be able to track her down before it’s too late?!
Marvel’s Doctor Strange: Prelude is a two-issue mini-series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and written by Will Pilgrim with art by Jorge Fornes & Jesus Aburtov. The comic book will also give readers a look at Kama-Taj before the movie opens on Nov. 4. Will you pick this one up?
