Avengers: Infinity War is just a month away from bringing Marvel’s heroes together on the big screen, and Marvel’s comic books aren’t about to be shut out from the fun. Today Marvel revealed the new Infinity Wars comic by Gerry Duggan and artist Mike Deodato, which appears to be the followup event to the current Infinity Countdown miniseries by Duggan, Deodato, and other artists.
Along with the announcement came the first cover for Infinity Wars #1, which is a very MCU-friendly image, with Star-Lord, Gamora, Captain Marvel, Adam Warlock, Loki, Thanos, and the most Benedict Cumberbatch-looking Doctor Strange we’ve ever seen. There’s also a mystery character on the cover, whose face is obscured by a mask with the Infinity symbol upon it.
Who is that masked character? It’s either going to be someone we know or a brand-new creation. One thing is clear: In this universe, you don’t wear a mask unless you’ve got something to hide.
The cover is also notably missing a few characters from Infinity Countdown, including the recently resurrected Wolverine and the heroine he entrusted with the Space Stone. Nor is the Ultron/Hank Pym hybrid on the cover, although a recent issue of Infinity Countdown established that Pym’s mind is locked in the Soul Stone alongside several other lost souls.
Will Wolverine, Pym, and Ultron be out of the picture by the time Infinity Wars hits in July? We’ll find out more next week when Marvel pres, ents its latest titles at C2E2 in Chicago.
