Dungeons & Dragons can be therapy, a lifeline to much-needed social contact, or a total geeky obsession. If you fall into the latter category, the role-playing original is taking a step in a new direction just for you — and from a surprising source.

The game, which just had its best-selling year ever with Wizards of the Coast thanks to high-profile placement in things like Stranger Things, is teaming up with Scooby-Doo, SLC Punk!, and Scream actor (and D&D diehard) Matthew Lillard’s company, Beadle & Grimm’s Pandemonium Warehouse, to release a premium campaign. It’s called the Platinum Edition Dungeons & Dragons: Waterdeep: Dragon Heist (count the colons, that’s how you know it’s awesomely dorky) and it’s got everything an aspiring Dungeon Master needs to dive headfirst into fantasy.

It’s got battle maps, 20-plus miniatures to put on those battle maps, encounter cards (depicting battles or locales on the player side and stats/histories for the DM on the other), bonus artwork, and — the key to any good D&D campaign — props. There’s nothing like being handed a note, a map, or a code in real life when you find one in the game. Immersion is key with Dungeons and Dragons, and B&G’s collaboration with Wizards of the Coast seeks to emulate the best possible scenario for role-playing.

So how did Lillard get involved in such a project? "My four best friends and I, in the midst of our midlife crisis, decided to create something radical: a Dungeons & Dragons luxury item, built for serious players," Lillard told SYFY WIRE via email. "Our mission is to create an elevated game experience for players and DMs alike. The Beadle & Grimm’s Platinum Box is built to give you everything you want as a DM, but don’t have time to put together yourself."

More details are forthcoming on the Stream of Many Eyes on Twitch (taking place from June 1 - 3). But we do know the game will have a limited run when it comes out in November. "With only a 1000 boxes made, the Beadle and Grimm’s Platinum Box will sell out fast!" said Lillard. "It’s a steep learning curve, and we’re figuring it out as we go, but I’ve never been so excited about an adventure in my life."

If you're excited too, the Platinum Edition Dungeons & Dragons: Waterdeep: Dragon Heist is available for pre-order now on Beadle & Grimm’s website.
