In case you were starting to wonder if Playstation Network’s original sci-fi series Powers had drifted back into development hell, worry not — here are some of the first pics showing the cast in action.
Aside from the NYCC trailer, we haven’t seen much of anything from the long-gestating series, based on Brian Michael Bendis’ comic of the same name. But the studio has finally released some cast photos, showing off key players Michelle Forbes, Eddie Izzard, Sharlto Copley, Susan Heyward, Noah Taylor and Olesya Rulin in action.
The pics show off the two detectives at the heart of the series, played by Copley and Heyward, who are tasked with keeping peace in a world full of out-of-control superheroes. They also offer a look at Eddie Izzard’s freaky super-powered villain Wolfe, strapped down following a lobotomy, which gives us absolute chills. We’re definitely digging the look of the project.
The series has been in development for several years, until FX finally passed on a series order and Playstation stepped in to keep it going. Bendis chatted with Entertainment Weekly about the series and said he believes it’ll be a great genre-buster capable of telling some truly unique stories:
“It matches up the best things about a cop show with the best things about the superhero genre and allows us to tell stories that completely deconstruct and reinvent everything about our culture.”
Powers is tentatively slated to debut this month on the Playstation Network. It marks the company’s first foray into original scripted drama. Check out the pics below and let us know what you think.
