Mild spoliers below pertraining to the next episode of Supergirl Season 3 below.

Get ready for the debut of another classic DC comic character to come to life on the next episode of The CW’s Supergirl.

Entertainment Weekly has spoken to Melissa Benoist about the much-anticipated arrival of M’yrnn J’onzz (played by Alias star Carl Lumbly) and Kara’s mission to Mars on Monday night’s episode.

Kara will be tagging along with the Martian Manhunter, as he returns to save his homeland and meet his father M’yrnn, which is said to add to this season’s theme of what it means to be human (along with a big culture shock that lies ahead for J'onn J'onzz as he returns home).

“[Kara] of all people has been there more than once thinking a family member is gone and then discovering that they are in fact alive with Non and Astra,” Benoist explains. “I think that gives her leeway to react and be there for [J'onn] in a way that she would’ve wanted people to be there for her when she went through the same.”

And we can’t wait to see red planet in all their glory, as Benoist describes the sets as being “amazing” as well as the whole episode having an Indiana Jones feel to it. “I immediately gave props to all the writers for that. It’s such an adventure. In Kara’s foray into embracing her alienness, it’s really great to see her, and it was great to feel her, being on another planet,” she adds.

This can only be a good, as I think we can all agree that Supergirl desperately needs a holiday. And it sounds as though this exciting adventure could be just the ticket to lift her spirits after feeling a bit down on herself in recent episodes.
