Horror auteur Eli Roth has a new supernatural series hitting the airwaves soon, but you might not have actually heard about it. Want a peek?
Dubbed South of Hell, the seven-episode series is set to air on cable network WE tv. It stars Mena Suvari (American Beauty, American Horror Story, American Pie) as a rogue demon hunter named Maria Abascal who has a supernatural force living inside her that feeds on the evil she exorcises from others. Yeah, this sounds intriguing. Along with Roth, the series also boasts Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, The Purge) as a producer. So yeah, a solid horror pedigree behind the camera.
Though WE tv might not seem like the most obvious place for this freaky project to debut, it’s worth noting the female-focused cable network has previously run supernatural fare Charmed and Ghost Whisperer as part of its re-run programming package — so an original supernatural drama isn’t too much of a stretch. It also marks the network’s first original scripted genre series.
Regardless, it’s nice to see a network go outside-the-box and offer up a fresh horror series. Here’s hoping it’s actually good.
