The Birds of Prey ensemble movie at Warner Brothers has made quite a few advancements over the last few months by hiring director Cathy Yan (Dead Pigs) and receiving a prime slot on the DCEU slate before Suicide Squad 2. With so much going on before the film's actual production, it's natural that certain rumors crop up, making certain claims about the plot and characters.
One such rumor was that Catwoman would be a part of the team, which, in the comics, includes Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Batgirl, Black Canary, and the Huntress. There were also reportedly whispers that Léa Seydoux (Inglourious Basterds, Spectre) was in talks to play either Black Canary or Catwoman. According to a tweet from Wrap reporter Umberto Gonzalez, not only is Seydoux not being considered for either role, but Catwoman will not be included as part of the character line-up.
"RUMOR KILLER No, that dumb 4chan rumor is so not true. Léa Seydoux is not in early talks nor on some shortlist for either BLACK CANARY or CATWOMAN in BIRDS OF PREY. In fact, CATWOMAN is NOT even in the movie!" wrote Gonzalez.
At present, the only two individuals who are confirmed for the film are Robbie's Quinn and Barbara Gordon's Batgirl; the latter's solo movie from Joss Whedon seemed like it would fall apart when the writer/director left the project, but it's still on track with screenwriter Christina Hodson (Bumblebee).
If Birds of Prey will really be released before the Suicide Squad sequel, it better get a move on with its casting and principal photography, because Deadshot & Co. are scheduled to return sometime next year, based on IMDb's latest information.
