Michael Rooker was gunning for the role of Rocket Raccoon, but did he get it?
Marvel's upcoming Phase 2 space opera, Guardians of the Galaxy, has a rich tapestry of extraterrestrial heroes. Michael Rooker has played a lot of tough characters in his career. Rocket Raccoon is pretty tough, but that's not the part Rooker will play.
Good news, though, because Rooker will be playing Yondu Udonta. Yon-who, you might ask. Think Native American but, instead of America, he's from the planet Centauri IV. His planet was the first one outside of the solar system to be colonized by Earth. Yondu is a hunter and a natural mystic. He's also (suprise!) a bit of a badass. So perfect casting for Rooker.
So that gives us Chris Pratt as Starlord, Peter Quill, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, (hopefully) Zoe Saldana as Gamora, and now Rooker as Yondu. Not a shabby cast so far.
We're thrilled to see Rooker in another comic project. He was great as Merle on Walking Dead, and we can't wait to see him on the big screen as Yondu.
