Sure, Marvel Studios has (mostly) regained the film rights to Spider-Man, but that doesn’t mean anyone other than Peter Parker will be donning the webs on the big screen anytime soon. So, if you’re still jonesing to see Miles Morales suit up in live action, this is probably the closest you’re going to get.
Dubbed Spider-Man Lives: A Miles Morales Story, this short film was written and directed by Ivan Kander, and produced at Bard Tales Productions. The short uses Miles’ comic origins as a jumping-off point, and though the actor portraying the younger Morales is a bit old for the role, it’s still a solid jaunt into the Ultimate universe (plus, the casting of Miles’ father is spot-on). The action looks good, and considering Marvel doesn’t have much interest in letting Miles escape the comic page anytime soon, this will have to suffice.
Though Miles isn’t expected to make it to the big screen in the next few years, he did just make the jump to the main Marvel Comics universe, and is set to headline the company’s new Spider-Man comic (he’s also joined the All New, All Different Avengers). So yeah, there’s still a lot of love for Miles out there — but we’re still holding out hope for a movie at some point. #MilesMorales4Ever
