Minority Report is getting a reboot on the small screen. Months ago, we learned that a TV adaptation based on the 2002 Steven Spielberg film was in development. Over the weekend, it was announced that the Fox Network has officially greenlit a pilot.
The script was written by Max Borenstein (Godzilla) and takes place a decade after the events of the film. It centers on a precog -- a person with precognitive abilities -- who's struggling to lead a normal life. Can he leave his past behind him? Without the Precrime unit, his purpose seems unclear. Luckily, he meets a female detective, who will help put his visions to good use.
The film starred Tom Cruise and was loosely based on a short story by Philip K. Dick. It was set in 2054 and centered on a fictional police unit called Precrime. They used the futuristic visions of precogs to stop crimes before they happened. The series is one of many that Spielberg has on his plate. He also executive-produces Falling Skies, Under the Dome and Extant.
