It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about that Misfits reboot, but today we have some exciting news: Freeform has given the go-ahead to the pilot and cast four of the supernatural series’ five leads.
The project hails from Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage’s Fake Empire, as well as Diane Ruggiero-Wright (iZombie, Veronica Mars), who penned the adaptation and will act as showrunner. Making her pilot directorial debut is Victoria “Vic” Mahoney (Grey’s Anatomy).
Schwartz, Savage and Ruggiero will executive-produce alongside original series producer Murray Ferguson and show creator Howard Overman. As a huge fan of the British series, the fact that Overman himself is involved in the reboot (just as Toby Whithouse was in the U.S. version of Being Human) is a positive sign the remake will be worthy of the original.
For the uninitiated, Misfits “revolves around a group of young offenders in a community service program who develop supernatural powers after being hit by a mysterious electrical storm.” So who are the cast members portraying the show’s young offenders?
Ashleigh LaThrop (Sirens) will play Alicia, who’s described as a “spoiled, vapid, middle-class party girl who seems to have three main goals in life: have fun, look hot and get guys.”
Tre Hall (Rebel) will play Curtis, a “talented and cocky football player with a promising career ahead of him who is used to everything going his way.”
Allie MacDonald (Orphan Black) portrays the “tough and trashy Kelly, who is street smart with a hair-trigger temper and a penchant for beating the crap out of people.”
Jake Cannavale (Nurse Jackie) will play Nathan, a “con artist and thief with a heavily inflated sense of his own attractiveness, intelligence and potential.”
The only character from the original series not yet cast is Simon, who was played by Iwan Rheon (Game of Thrones, Marvel’s Inhumans). Mmm. I wonder if the Misfits reboot will have our “heroes” wear the original series’ trademark orange overalls? #RealWorldProblems.
Are you excited that Misfits is going to pilot? What do you think of the show’s new cast members?
