Based on Stephen King’s 2014 crime thriller, Mr. Mercedes will make its debut as a 10-episode series on the AT&T Audience Network this summer. To whet our appetite for the new Stephen King TV adaptation, a sneak peek as well as four images have been released via USA Today.
Tasked with adapting the series is David E. Kelley (Ally McBeal, The Practice, Boston Legal), who will act as executive producer, with Jack Bender (Lost, Under the Dome) sitting in the director’s chair and King expected to make a cameo.
It stars Harry Treadaway (Penny Dreadful’s Dr. Frankenstein) in the role of crazed serial killer Brady Hartsfield and Brendan Gleeson (Harry Potter movies) as detective Bill Hodges, who’s spurred back to action by Hartsfield.
Here’s why Kelley thinks viewers will tune in for Mr. Mercedes: “People will come to Mr. Mercedes for the thrills that Stephen King so readily offers and they will stay for the richness and characters.” Fair enough. The master of horror has always crafted compelling characters fans love to love, or love to hate (or even better: hate to love!). The sneak peek below features interviews with Bender, King, Kelley, Treadaway and Gleeson, as well as the first footage!
Based on Stephen King’s 2014 book, “Mr. Mercedes” follows demented killer Brady Hartsfield (Treadaway), who taunts a retired police detective Bill Hodges (Gleeson) with a series of lurid letters and emails, forcing the ex-cop to undertake a private, and potentially felonious, crusade to bring the killer to justice before he is able to strike again.
Kicking off on Aug. 9 on the AT&T Audience Network, available to DirecTV subscribers, Mr. Mercedes also stars Kelly Lynch, Mary-Louise Parker, Holland Taylor, Jharrel Jerome and Justine Lupe. Are you ready to enter the world of Stephen King's Mr. Mercedes?
