It’s been nearly a year since we’ve heard anything about Disenchantment, the new adult animated series from The Simpsons creator and Futurama co-creator, Matt Groening. The series has been in production at Netflix for the better part of two years, but it finally has a release date: August 17. Netflix also launched an official twitter account for Disenchantment, and released a few images of the main characters.

The first tweet teases “A princess, an elf, and a demon walk into a bar…” while offering an early look at the characters. The princess in question is Bean (Abbie Jacobson), while Luci (Eric Andre) is her personal demon; and Elfo (Nat Faxon) is an elf who accompanies them on their misadventures through the medieval fantasy kingdom known as Dreamland.

It appears that the characters will retain Groening’s signature style.

It may not be the Futurama revival that we’ve been hoping for, but Disenchanted will feature Futurama veterans John DiMaggio, Billy West, Maurice LaMarche, and Tress MacNeille in supporting and guest roles. David Herman, Matt Berry, Jeny Batten, Rich Fulcher, Noel Fielding, and Lucy Montgomery will also lend their voices to show.

Presumably, Disenchanted will mock the conventions of fantasy in the same way Futurama went after sci-fi tropes, perhaps with even more boundary pushing, as hinted at by its "adult" description. Netflix also promises that Bean, Luci, and Elfo will “encounter ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, walruses, and lots of human fools.” We’re sure there’s room for dragons too!
