Filming on Marvel and Netflix's Luke Cage series is still going roundly, and some cool new pics from the set have emerged, confirming the appearance of another classic Marvel Comics villain.
The photos give us our first look at Willis Stryker, aka Diamondback, who will make his MCU debut in the Netflix series. They show Mike Colter’s Hero For Hire exchanging blows with Diamondback, played by Erik LaRay Harvey (Boardwalk Empire).
There were four Diamondbacks in the Marvel comics, but the first, Willis Stryker, was Luke Cage’s nemesis. The two men were originally childhood friends in Harlem, but Diamondback framed Cage in a drug deal that sent the hero to prison. Over a woman. The character first appeared in Luke Cage: Hero for Hire #1 back in June of 1972.
Known as Diamondback because of his mastery of knives -- some of them were specially rigged knives that exploded, released toxic gases or even created sonic waves -- he was apparently killed in an explosion in the very next issue, Luke Cage: Hero For Hire #2.
Check out the new pics below:
After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage becomes a fugitive trying to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But he is soon pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city–forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury.
The cast also includes Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Frank Whaley as Rafael Scarfe, Mahershala Ali as Cottonmouth, Theo Rossi as Shades, Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard and Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple.
Marvel's Luke Cage will premiere on Netflix in September.
